Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Review

See more picture

This game was a little easier than I thought it was going to be. You just follow the clues or hints on the map and do your tasks as an assassin. Escaping seemed too easy though. You can run 3 feet away behind a wall or bench, on a roof, or between people, and you're free... The battles are not hard from what I've seen so far. And once you've completed the biggest part of your mission assassinating someone and the town goes on alert, you can just "blend" in and walk very slowly to escape. I think they made it too easy. Overall entertaining but I was really playing this to get to the game I hear is even better, Assassin's Creed 2

Assassin's Creed Feature

  • Great Game
  • Fun
Assassin’s Creed is the next-gen game developed by Ubisoft Montreal that will redefine the action genre. While other games claim to be next-gen with impressive graphics and physics, Assassin’s Creed merges technology, game design, theme, and emotions into a world where you instigate chaos and become a vulnerable, yet powerful, agent of change.

The setting is 1191 AD. The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You, Altair, intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict.

You are an Assassin, a warrior shrouded in secrecy and feared for your ruthlessness. Your actions can throw your immediate environment into chaos, and your existence will shape events during this pivotal moment in history.

Key Features

  • Be an Assassin: Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history’s deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape.
  • Realistic and responsive environments: Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
  • Action with a new dimension - total freedom: Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
  • Relive the epic times of the Crusades: Assassin’s Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience, and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
  • Intense action rooted in reality: Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
  • Next-gen gameplay: The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment, and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Love the story, enjoyed the game - Luis Alvarez Cabreja -
While it's a bit tedious is also a lot of fun to do all does building climbing and for the price I think it's worth it for anyone who is willing to get into the Assassin's creed lore. The story is really good and intriguing, in the vein of 'lost', it leaves you with a lot of questions that are to be answered in the following games.

Love it - FreddyCruze.ni -
For me it is a 4 stars game. Fun, but I find it a bit short of missions, namely the nine missions are the same thing and although it is the object of the game I think it could add more points in each mission. Highlight the quality of the architecture of cities, that's wonderful. Altair needs more weapons.

But to be the I of the series is fine. I'm playing the second and waiting for November 3rd.

Alan Wake

Alan Wake Review

See more picture

I enjoyed the way in which the story was told. The gameplay is fairly repetitive but fits into the story very well. The game itself isn't very long so I didn't find the repetition to be much of a deterrent.

My biggest praise is how the chapters of the story are episodic and self contained. I have a lot of hobbies, job, girlfriend and many many other games to play and one of my biggest complaints with story based games is losing the immersion when you set the game down for a few days, or a week. Not only does Alan Wake re-familiarize you with the current happenings of the game when you pick up a new chapter but provides a great point to stop if you know you aren't going to finish it during that session.

Light is used heavily as a mechanic both in gameplay and storytelling so do yourself a favor and keep the brightness down so you get the full effect.

The "thriller" genre rarely gets a worthwhile game so I definitely recommend it.

Alan Wake Feature

  • Intense Cinematic Action - From Remedy, the masters of cinematic action, comes a 3rd person action game filled with overwhelming odds and desperate near escapes.
  • Gripping Suspense - Storytelling at its best, Alan Wake is like a tightly paced thriller TV series, offering endless twists and cliffhangers, and building up to an epic conclusion.
  • Light is your Weapon - Light is your greatest weapon and only protection as dark¬ness takes over everything and everyone, and turns them against you.
  • Episodic narrative
  • Suspenseful and gripping storyline
Alan Wake, developed by Remedy Entertainment for the Xbox 360, is psychological action thriller that incorporates the elements of a TV show with the interactivity of a video game for a uniquely immersive experience. A suspenseful story told in successive episodes, this release will treat players to top-notch graphics that give the game a stunning cinematic look.

A Nightmare Turns to Life
Alan Wake is a bestselling horror novelist who moved to the small town of Bright Falls, Washington after suffering from insomnia and depression. Wake is able to sleep again, but after he meets a mysterious woman, he begins to have terrible nightmares. As he puts these nightmares on paper for a new book, he soon notices that all the things that happen in his book are coming true right before his eyes.

Using cinematic effects and technology such as real-time lighting, shadows and reflections, you'll be treated to a game that is oozing with atmosphere and able to invoke an emotional response from the player. The realistic environment features real-time weather and light changes that effect the game play for a remarkably immersive experience.

Explore an Entire Town
The town of Bright Falls is 100 square kilometers, and players will be able to roam through this incredibly detailed area any way they like, roaming the town or wandering out to the lakes, forest, satellite towns, and more. The game gives the player goals, but how he chooses to go about completing them is up to him. Clues are scattered throughout the town, and solving mysteries will require players to pay close attention to the little details.

Intense Combat
In addition to solving puzzles and exploration, the game also pushes players into serious action and combat; when night comes, creatures will take their best shots at Alan, and you'll have to be quick with strategy as well as weapons to beat them back.

Alan Wake presents an unusual and new gaming experience that features a riveting, multi-layered story while giving the player the ability to freely roam a giant environment. It supports Dolby Digital sound and runs at a beautiful high-definition 720p.
When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A dark presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, Washington pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save the woman he loves. With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake is a pulse-pounding thrill ride.

This Horror Fan is Satisfied. - Scott M. Brown -
When approaching Alan Wake I wasn't really sure what to expect. I've always been a huge survival horror fan. I've been fighting off hordes of the undead since the first Resident Evil on PS1 (actually since "Zombies ate my Neighbors" on SNES). I didn't know too much about Alan Wake but I decided to give it a shot anyways. Boy was I suprised! This game turned out to be a jewel. Alan Wake has so much atmosphere you could bottle it up and sell it out of a soda machine. Some games don't get the pacing right, with too much of this or too much of that. Alan Wake seems to have pacing perfected (action, exploration, puzzles). If you're a horror game fan you owe it to yourself to pick this game up. This game has renewed my love for the XBOX 360. I just hope they don't take too long to make a full sequel.

Very Boring Game - F. Jury - usa
Ugh, this game is very frustrating. At a glance it appears to have potential, but turns out to just be terrible. It tries to be some type of Steven King/horror/movie/game, and I'm not even sure if it succeeds or fails at that, but either way it's a very boring and repetitive game. This game feels like it should have come out five years ago, but even if it had, it still would have been awful.
The most annoying part is you have no idea what is going on the entire game. Struggle through your boredom to finish the game and you will still have no idea what transpired. The ending is short and resolves none of the baffling story. There is no closure or explanation of anything.
The game isn't so much scary as it is confusing and tedious. The controls and gameplay are clunky. You spend the entire time trotting from place to place usually in the woods, shining flashlights at shadows and using a clunky revolver or rifle.
This feels like a very old school game, with linear levels and horrible character development. Most of the characters introduced in the game you learn nothing about, and have virtually nothing to do with.
Graphics and voice acting are both ok, but both could have been better.

You will spend the whole game, reloading your flashlight and revolver to use on very repetitive shadows. Oh and you get to crank generators. Fun.

Basic premise of the game = light is good darkness is bad. Your main weapon is a flashlight and you collect coffee thermoses all game for no reason.

Save yourself from wasting several hours of your life and play something else.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Review

I didn't start out liking this game. It took me quite a while to get into the game. I was put off by the lack of fighting. Yeah, there are monsters to fight, but they seem mostly an afterthought to add more challenge to getting sand refills for your dagger.

Speaking of your dagger, that is the hook to this game. Short version, you get tricked into stealing it and unleashing the Sands of Time which destroy everybody except the main villain, and a princess who helps you named Farah. You get the ability to turn back time briefly. You might not think how just reversing an event might help in a fight at first, but it is incredibly useful. Picture just getting hit by a nasty combo from a guard, whoops now you've reversed time and are able to dodge at the beginning of the combo and avoid taking damage. Nice.

Even better though, the time reversing powers are invaluable for the jumping puzzles. The ultimate problem with games that give you lots of ability to interact with the environment are that some things will inevitably look like you can interact with them, but end up just being part of the scenery. The classic example might be in a first person shooter where the wooden door you blast with your bazooka just gets some scorch marks but won't break. Reversing time allows you to try different options without the pain of starting all the way over on a long sequence. With few exceptions, the game really doesn't make you replay huge chunks of the game out of spite. It may not always let you save, but it will often do checkpoints on particularly long runs so as long as you don't quit, you don't have to go all the way back to the save point.

The puzzles sometimes require some thought, but mostly just require looking around. There's generally only one thing you can do things. Things are also fairly automatic once you start them. For example, once you're walking along a narrow ledge, it's very difficult for you to actually fall to your death. Much like God of War, you can pull yourself back up. Real annoyance comes late game in the form of birds/bats that will attack you and make you fall, but generally you're safe unless you really jerk the control stick around. Still, they're mostly very fun and it's really cool to swing around on poles and jump over large chasms.

I would rate this game down a bit because there is a game ending bug fairly late in the game. You meet up with Farah and she's off screen and supposed to activate a switch to raise the platform. If you revert from that save, you'll yell to her to do it, but she'll not raise the platform. No platform raise, no possibility of progress. Keep at least two saves and switch between them!

The reason it goes back up to 5 stars is because they had the brilliant idea to add visions to the game. When you hit a save point, you get a brief vision of what is coming next. It's not a play through like the shadow training in Disney's Kim Possible: What's the Switch, you get more of a brief jumble of what will happen later. Often it's just some views of puzzles, but sometimes a view of something important that will happen later in the game. This simple addition makes figuring out puzzles much less painful. You don't get handed the answer, but you do get sort of hints. The visions will save you a lot of frustration at points in the game. If you get really lost though, you can usually find uploaded videos of the game to help you along. I'd tend to suggest that for bits where you cannot reverse time near the end. It can be pretty brutal otherwise.

God of War III

God of War III Review

See more picture

This is the first God of War I've ever played. When the first two came out I has under 17, so my parents wouldn't let me have them. I borrowed this from a friend, and I throughly enjoyed doing so.

Pros:
- Some of the best visuals I've seen, especially facial animations

- Combat is fast paced and generally does not get boring.

- Decent length

- Two extra Game modes

- Story was better than I imagined it would be

- Easy Platinum Trophy (6 days for me)

- boss fights were challenging, but beatable.

CONS:
- a few notable glitches (i.e. Infinite health and maxed out weapons glitch, and a glitch preventing forward progress before the Forge the first time.)

- Thought the ending would have been a little better.

Overall, a fantastic game that I recommend to anyone who is considering playing it. You won't regret it!

  • New deadly weapons like the Cestus, powerful metal gauntlets with devastating strength, and other brutal instruments of war that open up ruthless new techniques.
  • The menacing creatures of Greek mythology can now be manipulated against their will, to cross chasms, inflict blind rage against enemies, reveal puzzles and secrets, and as tools of complete annihilation.

God of war III - TeRry P. -
The game is just great in its way, same feeling from the previous version. However, for this 3rd version everything is just bigger, gigantic stuffs, with amazing graphics. It's like u r seeing the monsters that u can't even fight at all, however in the end u can just kill everything that is impossible. Only one downside for this game is it's getting really brutal and sadistic, parents should be adviceed.

Amazing detail/graphics/story - Charles Garner III - Lubbock,TX
GoW3 has a great story. If you like action it jumps right in it from the beginning just like the other ones. I was really amazed by the graphics and camera angles. Unlike anything out there. If you are a gamer at all this game is a MUST!
